A woman from Mahatshula North suburb in Bulawayo was arrested after allegedly biting a police officer during a raid at a house in the suburb where beer was being illegally sold.
Jestina Nathan (60) is reported to have bitten Detective Constable Emmanuel Dzatswa on the shoulder while he was enforcing a search warrant issued by the court in terms of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.
Dzatswa was reportedly left with injuries following the ‘sickening’ assault.
It is alleged that on 25 February 2021 detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics in Bulawayo stormed house number 2189 in Mahatshula North after receiving a tip-off that alcohol was being illegally sold there.
It is reported that Nathan refused to open the room where alcohol was reportedly stocked leading Dzatswa and his workmates to apply for a search warrant at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court.
After the search warrant was issued, the following day, Dzatswa went back to the house in question and whilst executing the search warrant, Nathan became violent and sunk her teeth on his left shoulder.
For her uncouth actions she was arrested and subsequently appeared in court before Bulawayo magistrate Stephen Ndhlovu facing charges of assaulting a police officer as defined in Section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
Nathan was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody.
