City of Harare have announced that they will not be collecting household garbage because they are facing fuel challenges.
The City’s spokesperson Michael Chideme posted this on the organisation’s Facebook page and said that service will be resumed when they receive a consignment of fuel that they have paid for.
The post reads:
We are currently unable to remove household garbage because we do not have diesel.
We paid for our consignment and are yet to receive the fuel. We are therefore unable to deploy any garbage collection trucks.
Once we receive the fuel we will do a blitz in all suburbs to clear the backlog created through non collection.”
The post attracted comments from the council’s stakeholders that urged them to privatise and sub-contract garbage collection and stop giving excuses of not collecting garbage especially as Covid-19 rages on.
