DOUBLE TRAGEDY FOR GIRL (14)…Raped by uncle and tenant

Double tragedy visited a 14-year-old girl from Bulawayo’s Manningdale suburb when she tried to seek help from her family after being raped by a tenant only to get the shock of her life when her uncle meted the same calamity on her by sexually assaulting her.

According to the police, when the girl, who is in Form Two, narrated her ordeal to her family at the hands of their 21-year-old tenant, her 25-year-old uncle, instead of lending a helping hand, slept with her without her consent.

The names of the tenant and uncle are being withheld to protect the identity of the minor girl.

Circumstances are that on an unknown date, but sometime in December 2020, the girl was at home sleeping with two minor children aged five when their tenant knocked on the door intending to buy cigarettes.

The seemingly unsuspecting girl reportedly invited him inside the house so that she could serve him. While inside the house the man then got hold of the girl by her waist and pushed her onto the bed. He asked her to have sexual intercourse with him, but she refused.

The daring man went on to forcibly undress the girl and made her lie on the bed before he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her once.

It is further reported that on 31 January 2021 and at around 9pm when the girl had just revealed her ordeal to the family, her uncle took her aside saying he wanted to counsel her.

In the process he then asked her to accompany him to their neighbour’s house to buy beer. Along the way, it is alleged that her uncle asked her to have sexual intercourse with him and she refused.

In a fit of anger, the uncle reportedly started insulting the girl with vulgar words and threatened to stab her if she continued turning him down.

He then forcibly asked the girl to remove her clothes and lie down. When the girl complied with his orders, he then allegedly raped her once.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the two alleged rapists. The duo has since appeared in court before Bulawayo magistrate Stephen Ndhlovu, each facing one count of rape.

They were both not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to 11 March 2021.
